In 2017 Mike travelled to the Taylor Guitars factory in El Cajon, California, where he hand selected tonewoods to be used in the creating of two custom guitars, exclusive to Guitar Galleries.

Acoustic? Yes. Electric? Yes. The T5z is a versatile hollow-body that blurs the line between electric and acoustic, delivering a sweeping range of electric and amplified acoustic tones. The T5z features a more compact body than the original T5, plus a 12-inch fretboard radius and jumbo frets, which provide a more familiar feel for electric players.

This particular custom T5z is crafted with a beautiful African ebony top. Tonally, African ebony shares some of Macassar ebony’s properties, including richly ringing overtones with a clear, linear quality across the tonal spectrum. As a result, no particular frequencies are accentuated over others. The guitar also features sapele back and sides, and a 24-7/8" scale mahogany neck with ebony fingerboard, with ebony sourced ethically from Taylor's mill in Cameroon, decorated with custom gold Mother of Pearl and Cocobolo inlays.

Like the T5, the T5z is equipped with a three-pickup configuration of an acoustic body sensor, a concealed neck humbucker, and a visible bridge humbucker, plus five-way switching and onboard tone controls, giving players an incredibly versatile electric/acoustic guitar.
